The new Bern University of Applied Sciences campus in Biel is an impressive piece of architecture made of concrete, wood, and glass. For the offices inside, we developed a concept that brings together the furniture from nine locations into a single place, adding new items only where necessary. This was done in collaboration with user representatives, the architects from pool Architekten, and the total contractor Marti.
Nine become one.
With those who work here.
At a university, many people work under one roof: lecturers, administration, students. And each group works differently. In several workshops with user representatives, we identified who needs exchange where and who needs quiet. This resulted in room modules that cater to all these different ways of working.

What remains moves with you.
The campus is a timber-hybrid construction certified with SNBS Gold and Minergie-P. Sustainability is a planning principle here, and the offices are intended to live up to this standard. The most sustainable piece of furniture is the one that already exists. We recorded the inventory from nine locations and integrated it into the plans for the new offices. Across all four floors, around nine out of ten pieces of furniture come from the existing inventory. New additions are only made where new ways of working require new furniture.

Space for every way of working.
Working with focus, discussing in a team, tinkering with projects, welcoming students or taking a quick breather: there is a dedicated room module for every activity. They are arranged according to the principle of “from loud to quiet”, which we developed together in the workshops. The design remains understated, letting concrete and wood speak for themselves, while the colour concept transitions from cold to warm. In this way, old and new furniture come together to form a harmonious picture.

Listening is our first draft.
Every project begins with a conversation. Tell us what you have in mind: a new working environment, a restaurant, a space for the future. We bring an open mind, curiosity, and experience in strategy, interior design, and lighting. We'd love to meet at our studio on Gutstrasse in Zurich. Or wherever your project is coming to life.
