Workplace Check
How much space does your work need?
Estimate space requirements, room quality, and investment budget for your office in three simple steps. Free of charge, no registration required.
A great office doesn't start with square meters, but with the way a team works. The Work Environment Check translates your way of working into a space requirement and six zones, highlights where your current space already excels, and provides an initial cost estimate for the renovation. It is based on SECO guidelines and our experience from planning around 2,500 workstations over the past four years.
Good to know
Space is the beginning, not the destination.
How much space does a workstation need?
For multifunctional offices, SECO recommends 10 to 25 m² per workstation. The range is deliberately broad: a team that collaborates extensively on site needs different spaces than one that works with high focus and is partly remote. That is why the check first asks about the way of working and only then about the floor space.
Which zones does a modern office need?
We plan across six New Work zones: Focus for concentrated work, Retreat for phone calls and confidential matters, Collaboration for team projects, Meeting for scheduled discussions, Socialize for spontaneous encounters, as well as Learning & Events for workshops and occasions. The balance between these zones says more about a space than its total floor area.
Which requirements apply in Switzerland?
The guidelines to Ordinances 3 and 4 of the Swiss Labour Act specify, among other things, one quiet room per ten people, 12 m³ of air space per person (10 m³ with mechanical ventilation), and a ceiling height between 2.75 and 4 m, depending on the floor area. The check takes these values into account.
Why space alone is not enough
Two offices with the same floor area can feel completely different. Lighting, acoustics, flow, and identity determine whether people enjoy coming in. That is why the second step assesses how well your space currently supports focus, collaboration, social interaction, retreat, lighting and acoustics, as well as identity.
What happens after the check
Turning an initial assessment into a solid foundation: We assess the building and its use, listen to your team, and use this to develop a space allocation plan and spatial concept. If you are choosing a new location, we offer a site evaluation at a fixed price.
